what public companies are making money off of the world cup, which is being watched by billions of people and is extremely marketable? What are their stock tickers and which stock’s price would actually be affected by the world cup?

Don’t know — but I’m willing to bet it is mainly non-US firms.

The World Cup is a huge sporting event and thus attracts many companies worldwide. In terms of profitability, I don’t think many companies become profitable as a result of the World Cup…It is more a marketing and advertising ploy in hopes to boost revenue and sales…with that being said…the firms I would look at are: Adidas, Nike, Mastercard, Yahoo!, Fujifilm, Gilette, Avaya, Deutsche Telekom (which in US is T-Mobile), McDonalds, Toshiba, Emirates, Hyundai, Avaya, Coca-Cola, and Philips to name a few.
